The McKenzie Midwives attend births at McKenzie Willamette hospital conveniently located in the Eugene/Springfield area just steps from our clinic. You and your family can expect to receive excellent care from our nurse and physician partners as needed during your hospital stay. Your Midwives are available 24-7 to provide ongoing support through your labor and birth experience.
McKenzie Willamette hospital provides LDRP rooms meaning you labor, give birth and spend your postpartum recovery until discharge in the same room. Each room is equipped with a private bathroom including a jacuzzi tub, which is a wonderful tool for labor. We also offer the option of water birth for those that are interested.
If at any time during your pregnancy, labor, birth or postpartum period you require the attention of a physician, an Obstetrician from Oregon Medical Group will be available for consultation. In some cases, either prenatally or during your labor, you may be best cared for by a physician due to increasing risk factors. Your Midwives will continually be communicating with you through your pregnancy regarding impending risk factors and recommendation for care. Our goal is that a recommendation for transfer to an Obstetrician never be a surprise.
Education and support are two very important factors in feeling satisfied with your pregnancy and birthing experience. To that end, we recommend you and your support person(s) take a childbirth education class. Please speak with your midwife about options for classes available in the community. We also recommend the expert support of a doula. While your midwife strives to be available to you through the active stage of labor, sometimes it just isn’t possible. A doula can be with you to provide hands on, one-on-one support to you through your labor both before and after you arrive at the hospital. We are happy to make recommendations to you regarding doula services in Lane county.
